BIOGRAPHY
Dimitri Capuani is an Italian Producion Designer for feature films. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome (1993) and a Master’s Degree in Set Design from Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (CSC).
After graduating immediately began working as draughtsman alongside the celebrated director, Franco Zeffirelli, designing sets for several Operas.
His long collaboration with legendary Oscar-Winning Dante Ferretti started in 1998 with “Titus” directed by Julie Taymor, continuing with Cold Mountain (2003) by Antony Minghella, Gangs of New York (2002) and Hugo Cabret (2011) both directed by Martin Scorsese.
In 2013, Dimitri worked in Buenos Aires with the Director Juan Pablo Buscarini for the argentinian blockbuster, "The Games Maker", a fantasy movie for which he won the Premio Sur for best Production Design. Back in Italy, Dimitri began a successful collaboration with the Italian director Matteo Garrone, creating the sets for "Tale of Tales" (2015) and "Dogman" (2018), both of which won the Nastro d'Argento and the David di Donatello for Best Production Design.
In 2019 he works again with Matteo Garrone creating the sets for the famous italian fairy tale, Pinocchio. Later, the Italian film production company Wildside, called him to create the sets for two important films, Siccità by Paolo Virzì (2022) and L'immensità (2022) directed by Emanuele Crialese.
In 2023 he worked again with Matteo Garrone, designing the sets for “Io Capitano”, winner of the Silver Lion - Special Award for Best Director at the 80th Venice International Film Festival. At the 2024 Golden Globes, the film was nominated in the category of Best Foreign Film. At the Academy Awards of the same year, it was included in the final shortlist for Best International Film.
During 2024 he worked on the prestigious Netflix series "The Leopard", produced by Indiana Production and Moonage Pictures. The screenplay was written by Richard Warlow and Benji Walters and Tom Shankland directed. In 2025 he was called by the famous photographer and director Anton Corbijn to create the sets for the film 'Switzerland' starring Helen Mirren and produced by Brouhaha Entertainment and Lucky Red. Over the years he has collaborated with various international companies such as Dior, Campari, Roberto Cavalli, Dolce & Gabbana, Zegna and Bauli.
